Regeneration

The Regeneration team work to tackle issues of social exclusion in the city such as worklessness, poverty and financial exclusion.

If you live in a disadvantaged area your choices may be very limited. Schools may not be good. Businesses could be struggling. Public transport and housing may be poor.


Southampton has a number of areas with high levels of disadvantage and deprivation. Regeneration aims to help these neighbourhoods through working with communities to develop opportunities, more jobs and a safer place to live with better schools, good homes and a sense of community.


Our vision is for Southampton to be a city where no one is seriously disadvantaged because of where they live, their personal circumstances or the community they belong to and where everyone has the chance to acquire the skills, confidence and employment opportunities they need to improve their quality of life.

City Limits has now merged together with the regeneration team offering employment help, advice and support to people who are disabled, or who have difficulties finding work or training.

We also work with other local organisations and partners to tackle issues. One of the ways we do this is through a local partnership of employment support organisations, which work to reduce unemployment, improve skills and help more people into training and work. We have recently worked with local partners to successfully create a Retail Skills Shop in Southampton. The skills shop aims to provide retailers, and those looking for a career in retail, with high quality training provision and a support network.

We also help to coordinate work club provision in the city. Work clubs provide free help with CVs, job search, completing application forms, interview practice and other help to find a job in a friendly community environment.
