Mansel Park

Mansel Park is a large open space of 10.6 hectares. It is in the Redbridge ward in the west of Southampton. In a wide-ranging consultation with local people in 2004 the park was described as, “an underused resource with great potential for improvement.” The park improvements began in the following year. The years in the brackets are when these improvements took place.

• Replacement of the existing basketball court (new Multi Use Games Area - 2006)

• The refurbishment of the existing play area (2005 - 2007)

• Re-instated football pitches (2005 but also ongoing)

• Increased seating and litter bins (2006)

• Mown grass maze and informal grassed areas (2006/08)

• Creation of a natural and wildlife interest area (2007 and ongoing)

• New footpaths and cycle ways with lighting (2006)

• A new play area for toddlers by Millbrook Towers (2008)

• Creation of a family garden area by Millbrook Towers (2008)

As well as the park changes, we also built a new community and sports pavilion at Mansel Park. The project was led by a partnership of local residents, the Council, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Youth Options and Outer Shirley Regeneration. The new building was finished in 2007.
