How can I apply for my bus pass?

To apply for your bus pass you can apply online.

We have introduced this new way to apply for your card quickly and easily online. Using this method, you don't need to supply any documents or go to the council offices. Simply put in your details, upload an electronic photograph and we will do an automated check to confirm your eligibility. You can also add other services to your card. The process is quite straightforward, but if you are not familiar with the Internet, you can ask a friend, carer or family member to help you complete the electronic application. You can also visit Bitterne or Central Library where staff can help you apply online using their webcam to take your photograph free of charge.

Please note that this service is not available for the replacement of lost or damaged cards and we can only issue Concessionary bus passes to residents who live within our council tax area.

You can also apply by completing an application form and returning it in person to any Southampton library, local housing office or to Gateway at One Guildhall Square (on the site of the old C&A building opposite the Guildhall). Application forms are available from any of these venues or can be printed from this site to complete. You can also request an application form to be posted out to you.

Along with your application form you must provide:

Proof of your address on a document in your name, not more than three months old from one of the following:

Utility bill (gas, electric, water etc dated within the last 3 months)
Bank statement (dated within the last 3 months)
Council Tax bill (current)
Official correspondence

Proof of your personal identification on a document containing your date of birth from the list below:

Driving licence
Passport
Birth Certificate (if it is still in your current name) Please note that birth certificates are not official proof of identity but we do accept them for this purpose.

A colour passport photograph taken on a light background will be required. Digital or black and white photographs cannot be accepted. Gateway is able to take your photograph for use on your Smartcities card. This is not a guaranteed facility as there may be complications which prevent us from offering this service.
