Free swimming for over 60s

Use your over 60s Smartcities Concessionary Bus Pass to access Free Swimming

From 1 April 2009, all people aged 60 and over will be able to use any of the council’s three swimming pools for FREE, during public sessions.

Free Swimming is available at Bitterne Leisure Centre, Oaklands Pool and The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex.

This initiative is supported by The Department for Culture, Media and Sport and will run for an initial period of 2 years.

To gain access to the swimming pools for FREE, please present your over 60s Smartcities Concessionary Bus Pass to the receptionist at the participating venues who will place your card on a Smartcities card reader.

Terms and Conditions - 60 and over free swimming

  • All members must present a valid Leisure Venues card, Active City card or Smartcities over 60s Concessionary Bus Pass on every visit. Failure to produce a card will result in the full price of the session being charged.
  • Free use applies to public swim sessions, lane sessions, adults only sessions, ladies only sessions and later years sessions. Access to these sessions is subject to availability, on a first come first served basis and cannot be pre-booked.
  • The scheme is open to all and is not limited to Southampton residents. Customers must abide by the venues’ admission policies at all times. Southampton City Council reserves the right to refuse entry.
  • At The Quays “Eddie Read” Swimming and Diving Complex, car parking fees will not be refunded with the free swimming.
  • Lost cards will result in a fee being charged for a replacement card.
