Welcome to the Southampton City Council population pages.

The links below give four different population estimates and give an explanation of which situation each one would be most useful in:

Census 2011: details of the 2011 Census on the demography and characteristics of the residents of Southampton.

Mid Year Population Estimates: These estimates are produced by the Office for National Statistics and provide comparable statistics across the whole country for a single year. The current estimate is for 2011.

Subnational Population Projections: These projections run from 2011 to 2021 and are produced by the Office for National statistics for the whole country.

Small Area Population Statistics: These estimates are produced by Hampshire County Council and run from 2010 to 2017 and are based on local conditions and housing stock.

Long term population projections: These projections are produced by Hampshire County Council and run from 2001 to 2026. This data is a 'what if' based on local information and conditions.

Births, deaths and migration: Hampshire County Council has produced a series of reports on birth and death trends across the county and have also a produced a report on recent trends in international in-migration into Hampshire.
