Bargate is a vibrant area, home to the City Centre. It has the waterfront to the south, Bevois to the north, Freemantle to the west and a population of around 16,600. Bargate has a lot of terraced housing and flats and is fortunate to have a lot of open space including Mayflower Park and Hoglands Park - home to many large events including the MELA (the most multicultural open space event in Hampshire). Bargate is the heart of Southampton’s retail industry, being home to all city centre shops.
