Biography:

Councillor Michael Ball was first elected to Council in 2004. He represents Freemantle Ward, which covers Freemantle, lower Shirley and Banister Park.

He is a graduate of Southampton University, and has lived and worked in the Southampton area for nearly 20 years. He qualified in the city as a Chartered Accountant, before holding a number of senior financial roles in Hampshire in national businesses with activities ranging from agriculture to food distribution/transport. He now runs his own management consultancy business in Southampton. He is happily married and is the proud father of two girls.

He takes a keen interest in the financial management of the Council, serving as Chair of the Audit Committee. He was formerly
Chairman of Economic Wellbeing conducting inquiries into matters such as the performance of District Centres and NEETS. Until recently he was an active member of the Overview Scrutiny Management Committee reviewing the forward plan and performance of the Council.  In addition he has now Chairman of the Safer Communities Scrutiny Panel.

He enjoys walking, cycling and countryside pursuits.
