Southampton Common is one of the many parks and open spaces across Southampton providing ideal places to hold events.

Approximately 20 minutes walk from the City Centre and Southampton Central Station.
Parking is restricted on the Common, free parking is available in parking bays on Cemetery Road.

Description

The largest open space in the City boundaries (326 acre site). It is a haven for flora and fauna and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), with the inclusion of the Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre which gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the local ecology and wildlife.

Facilities

Main site by Cemetery Lake is used for events known locally as the "flats".
No permanent toilets on site.
Paddling Pool and play area.
Open area as well as woodland and large lake. Adjacent to Southampton Old Cemetery.

Events

The Common has been host to many large scale events including Southampton Show, Southampton Balloon & Flower Festival, Southampton Garden Festival, Power in the Park, Concerts such as Jools Holland, UB40 and classical music, BBC Springwatch, Race For Life, Sport Relief, circuses, Ideal Home Exhibition, Drive In Movies and regular holiday fairs and markets. This venue is also used for smaller scale events such as the Wig Walk, Southampton Sprint, Euroblade, sponsored walks and fishing events.
