Description
Weston Shore is a 2.2km long stretch of public open space on Southampton Water between Woolston and Netley. The inter-tidal mudflats along the shore are of international importance for the waterfowl and is designated a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is a unique site, a seafaring gateway and the city's only significant publicly accessible water frontage. As part of a successful regeneration bid, a government regeneration grant has been used for improvements to the area.

The area has been used for many events including Sea Wings 2000, Tall Ships Parade of Sail, Southampton Salutes the Spitfire, Grand Day Out and family activities.

St James Park is situated in Shirley, sometimes known as Shirley recreation Ground. The park has a large open grass area alongside a play area and tennis courts. The kiosk inside the park was recently opened by the Friends of St James Park following refurbishment.
