Alita Mills, Director, Southampton Music Services, said: “This is a unique opportunity for our talented young jazz performers to perform alongside an internationalist artist .Opportunities like this offer lifetime memories and we are very proud of our young talent.”
SYJO`s talented young musicians have recently been selected to play at London`s Barbican Hall and the gig with Courtney Pine will cap off a memorable year for the group. Young saxophonist, Joe Lodge, says "to play with Courtney is amazing, he is one of the greats and I can`t wait for this opportunity." Band director Dan Mar-Molinero is just as excited "Courtney only works with groups that will keep up his high standard, so I am really pleased he wanted to work with us re-creating his classic album.”
Courtney Pine is widely recognised as the most important British jazz musician of his generation, his first album sold 100,000 copies and he has been awarded the CBE for services to music.
