Southampton's Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2018

Give us your views on the draft assessment

Pharmacy Needs Survey

Every three years all Health and Wellbeing Boards across the country have a statutory responsibility to publish a report which considers the local need for pharmaceutical services. This is referred to as a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, or PNA. In Southampton, our next PNA must be published on 1st April 2018.

The PNA will be used when deciding if new pharmacies are needed, in response to applications to open a new pharmacy. The PNA is also used to inform decisions by local organisations about whether services provided through community pharmacies meet the health needs of the local population adequately. A survey which ran earlier in the year gathered information from the public about how their community pharmacies are used.

An important part of producing the PNA is consulting on the draft report with members of public, along with a range of specific professional groups. We want to make sure we hear your views and take these into account in the final report. This will tell us whether or not we have got the report about right. We can address issues raised before the final report is published. The consultation will run from Monday 23rd October to Friday 22nd December 2017.
