Christmas festival - bar and grill to stay open on Christmas Eve
Christmas shoppers to get an extra day of festive food and drink
Southampton City Council’s Christmas Festival has been given the go ahead to continue trading for an extra day this year, following public demand for an extended period of festive fun. The market operators, Wela Markte, have agreed to keep the main bar area and the German sausage grill open on Christmas Eve, due to local demand for this to happen. The agreed date that the market usually runs to is the 23 December. This allows many of the stall holders to return home in time for the 24 December, the date that Christmas presents are traditionally opened in many European countries.
The main bar and grill will be open 10am to 4pm on Christmas Eve, offering last minute shoppers the chance to take a break from searching for presents to enjoy a festive lunch and relax with a drink from the bar. Unfortunately, the rest of the chalets, selling seasonal food and drinks as well as unique festive Arts and Crafts gifts, will be closed on Christmas Eve, and Flying Santa makes his last flight at 7pm on the 23 December. So, for the full Christmas Festival experience make sure you make a trip to Southampton before it’s too late!
Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Satvir Kaur said: “The Christmas festival has been a huge success again this year, with hundreds of thousands of people from the local area visiting the city to experience all it has to offer.
“We’ve had a lot of positive feedback and so many requests for the market to stay open on Christmas Eve that we’ve asked the market operators to run the main bar and sausage grill for an extra day to give everyone the chance to further enjoy the festivities.”
