Have your say on council plans to develop a Local Authority Trading Company in Southampton

We welcome views on the services we are proposing to transfer

Southampton City Council is seeking views on the formation of a Local Authority Trading Company (LATCo). Creating a LATCo is one of the ways that councils can legally pursue commercial activity by trading with other organisations to support the recovery of costs and invest funds back into council services.

Cllr Simon Letts, Leader of Southampton City Council comments: “While the council continues to face financial pressures from decreasing funding and increasing demand for services, it is looking at new and creative ways to increase income. Last year, we received a positive response from staff and residents in Southampton on our initial plans for a LATCo as long as we did not involve external improvement partners. As we move into the second stage of the consultation, we welcome views on our more detailed proposals.”

The consultation will run until 10 April 2018 and we welcome views on the services we are proposing to transfer, changes to those services and the impact it could have on residents, businesses, partners, staff and any other stakeholders.

Additional information on plans for the LATCo can be found at www.southampton.gov.uk/latco. Questionnaires can be downloaded from this webpage or located at one of the city’s libraries, the Civic Centre or our Gateway office at One Guildhall Square, Southampton, SO14 7FP. If you have questions that are not covered on the council’s website, please contact latco@southampton.gov.uk.

The deadline for submitting your feedback is Tuesday 10 April 2018.
