Response to Public Health England evidence on e-cigarettes

Smokers encouraged to stop or swap to e-cigarettes

In response to Public Health England's e-cigarette evidence review today:

Dr Jason Horsley, Director of Public Health for Southampton City Council, said: “Swapping to e-cigarettes is one of the best things any smoker can do to improve their health. Research to date shows e-cigarettes are up to 95% less harmful than tobacco. If you can, stop. If you can’t, swap.

"Southampton Healthy Living offers tailored support and advice for any smoker looking to cut down or quit. People using support with e-cigarettes or nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) are 4 times more likely to quit than people who try alone. Sadly half of all smokers will die directly from smoking.”
