Local businesses to showcase apprenticeship opportunities
Local businesses are to showcase the life changing apprenticeship opportunities that they offer at a Careers and Apprenticeships show, taking place on the 14 May at St Mary’s stadium. This exciting event will provide a one stop destination for careers and apprenticeships advice in the Solent area, linking employers with students and their parents or carers, in order to provide essential information on the openings available to young people.
During the day there will be two closed events for schools. The first of which introduces year 10 students to aspirational apprenticeship opportunities, helping them to make the right choices post-16 and think about how they prepare for competitive applications. The second part is designed to showcase real apprenticeship opportunities that young people can prepare for, following the completion of their post-16 education. Focused on options at the end of year 13, it enables young people to find out about the qualifications, skills and qualities they’ll need to be successful in their chosen career. They can also get impartial information, advice and guidance on career pathways and options from qualified Careers Advisers and talk to employers about their business and job opportunities.
At 5pm the show opens up to a wider audience including parents and carers, as well as professionals who work with young people, especially those who support and advise on future options. The evening session is also open to those who are not currently studying but are interested in finding out about the career and apprenticeship options that might be open to them.
Many young people are unsure what an Apprenticeship is, how to get one and what it would do for them career-wise. The show aims to reach as many local young people as possible, to give them the information they need to make informed choices. Alongside the businesses exhibiting at the show, there will also be the opportunity for post-16 students, parents/Carers and practitioners to attend two workshops.
Employers from a range of sectors will be in attendance, all of which are committed to the promotion of apprenticeship opportunities, offering level 3 to degree level apprenticeships. If you are an employer offering apprenticeships, then this show is your opportunity to shine a spotlight on what you do and gain access to schools and students looking for training and a career in an organisation like yours.
Employers can register to exhibit at the show through the Eventbrite website. There is also an Eventbrite page where parents, carers and professionals who work with young people, as well as young adults who are not studying but are interested in finding out about career and apprenticeship opportunities can register to attend the evening section of the event.
