The Common - Play area development

Southampton Common play area development

Southampton City Council has commissioned RHS Gold Medal and BBC People's Choice Award winning Landscape Architects, Davies White Ltd, to develop new nature play space proposals for Southampton Common.

Davies White worked with the local community to ensure issues and concerns were taken into account and new ideas and opportunities were included in the proposals where possible. The project aims to reconnect families with nature through play by creating a bespoke nature and water play area on the site of the old paddling pool.

The new play area is due to open in October 2017.

Southampton Common is the largest open space in the city. It is a haven for flora and fauna and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). A new pathway has been created from the play area to the Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre which gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the local ecology and wildlife.
