The DOVE scheme

A tenant of Southampton City Council experiencing domestic violence will be offered increased security in their present home regardless of whether they are intending to remain in the property permanently or whilst alternative accommodation is being sought, if this is appropriate. However, increased security to the home may not be appropriate where the person experiencing the violence lives with the perpetrator as this is unlikely to ensure the appropriate level of safety.
Increased security measures that are available to offer include:
Minor Works
• Fitting door chains
• Upgraded Locks
• Upgrade to Mortice Bolt/Barrel Bolts
• Window / handle locks (where not already fitted)
• Fitting 180 door viewers
• Fire Safety Equipment
• “Link Line” Service
• Provision of emergency mobile phones (direct line to police)
Major Works
• Upgraded external doors and door glazing
• Fitting secure letter boxes
• Improved security lighting
• Hinge Bolts
• London/Birmingham Bar Reinforcements
• Additional Heat Sensors in hallways of houses
• Window Grilles
• Reverse external Doors
• Security Film
These lists are not exhaustive but any further security measures such as video entrance systems would be a decision made by the Neighbourhood Manager in conjunction with the Repairs Control Manager. Please contact your Local Housing Office for details.
