Details of service:
Southampton’s latest Safe city partnership has been in place since 2004. It was set up by joining together the Crime and disorder reduction partnership (CDRP) and the Drug action team (DAT).
By law (Crime and disorder act 1998) the council has to work with a number of partners to lower levels of crime and disorder. They also have to target general nuisance and the problems caused by drink and drugs.
Partners involved are; the police, fire service, health authorities, Youth offending team, Probation service and voluntary services.
The Safe city partnership is a member of the Local strategic partnership. It has to reach a number of targets which are laid out in a government document known as a Local area agreement. One of the blocks of targets concerns crime and disorder under the title of ‘Safer stronger communities block’. The Safe city partnership has put in place a number of actions to try and ensure that the targets set out in the block are achieved.
The Safe city partnership has the following sub groups working on the below themes:
Anti-social behaviour cabinet task group
Arson reduction group
Crime reduction sub group
Drug action team
Hate crime and harassment task group
Priority and other prolific offenders group
Tackling alcohol partnership
