New Consumer and Business Protection Regulations
New regulations were introduced on 26 May 2008.
The Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulatins 2008 replace large parts of the existing laws enforced by Trading Standards and add some additional protection. These new Regulations, which are being referred to as the CPRs, implement an EU Directive and come with some new ways in which Trading Standards Officers can seek to enforce the law.
The Business Protection from Unfair Marketing Regulations 2008 ensure that businesses retain existing protection which would otherwise have been lost and add some additional protection from aggressive marketing. These regulations are being referred to as the BPRs.
Both these regulations are available in draft form on the BERR website, see links.
Business advice, which consumers might find helpful, is available from the OFT website, see link.
Please note that all of the linked documents are drafts and whilst substantial changes are unlikely the Regulations are as unpublished in final form. We hope to post the official documents as soon as they are published.
