Statement on ageism

In February 2007 the Seniors Council agreed a statement on fighting ageism on the grounds that it excludes and undermines senior citizens. The statement was presented to the Later years partnership who endorsed and agreed to promote it.

At the 19th September City Council meeting a motion was carried welcoming the Seniors Council’s initiative on tackling ageism and endorsing the ageism statement.

The Seniors Council is asking everyone to consider what is in the statement, think about their own attitudes and raise the subject of ageism wherever appropriate.
