Elder abuse statement
On 15th June 2007 'Enough is enough,' a conference on elder abuse, was held in Southampton in recognition of world elder abuse day. As part of the conference a statement on elder abuse was agreed upon.
Elder abuse describes a wide range of situations and actions that impact on the lives of senior citizens. Other forms of abuse, such as hate crime and domestic violence are also suffered by elders. The harm caused by elder abuse may be physical, psychological or financial, or may simply restrict people from opportunities, exercising choice, being independent, or enjoying their lives.
