Details of service:
You should register a birth with the Registrar of Births and Deaths for the district where the baby was born. If the baby was born in Princess Anne Hospital it may be possible to register while you are still in hospital. We attend there on weekdays. If you miss the Registrar or if your baby was born anywhere else in the city of Southampton then you can come to the Register Office in Bugle Street.
If it is not convenient for you to come to this office, you can go to see any other Register of Births and Deaths in England or Wales and give them the details of the birth (please telephone them first to make an appointment). They will then send the information to us on your behalf. We call this registering a birth by declaration. Please remember that if you register this way, you will not receive the birth certificate or Form FP58 for the baby's GP straight away, they will be posted a few days later.
