The Neighbourhood Agenda
Southampton City Council is looking into what is known as ‘the neighbourhood agenda’. This is about involving people more in their neighbourhoods, providing better local services and better value for money.
We want to help residents to take a more active role in looking after their streets, shaping local public services and influencing top-level decisions. It is a real opportunity for people to be involved and strengthen lots of good work which has already been done in the city.
Developing the neighbourhood agenda is a major government theme and is very important to the future of local government. It is not, however, just a government priority, but a means of achieving the council’s vision for neighbourhood services in order to:-
• Bring together as many neighbourhood-based services as possible
• Allow Neighbourhoods Partnerships to increase their influence on the services and the quality of environment in their areas
• Provide local bases, where appropriate, for neighbourhood teams and local communities
• Develop, encourage and sustain a sense of neighbourhood pride and local identity
