Low Crabon City Strategy

The future can be greener, healthier and safer as we adapt to climate change and promote the health of the environment. Southampton has ambitions to become a world-leading low carbon city. To achieve this, the council has produced its Low Carbon City Strategy (LCCS) marking the next phase in our transition to a low carbon future where we will work with businesses to become more sustainable, deliver economic growth and address climate change.

The vision is that Southampton will be one of the frontrunners in this emerging low carbon economy using our existing assets and low carbon infrastructure as a catalyst for development, inward investment, business growth, energy security and new jobs. We will work with partners to make Southampton a centre of green business and new and cleaner investment; a city which is learning and developing new technologies, generating new wealth and creating jobs for all. We will ensure it strengthens our recovery from the current global slowdown and becomes a key part of our future. It’s about creating the best environment for business success in the city and creating business success that is best for the environment.

The Low Carbon City Strategy is Southampton City Council’s climate change adaptation plan and is a key output of the GRaBs Interreg IVc project, in which Southampton City Council is a partner.
