Energy

The extraction of fossil fuels (oil, coal and gas) affects habitats and wildlife, whilst burning these fuels causes air pollution and global climate change. Every time we turn on a light, cook dinner, use a computer or travel by car we use energy and contribute to these problems. There are three main ways to reduce them:

1. Use less energy
2. Use energy more efficiently
3. Use energy from renewable sources

Some useful tips on how to achieve these in your home can be found on the Energy Savings Trust website.

Reducing the amount of energy we use as a council is not just about saving the environment; it makes good business sense as well. The council is aiming to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide it produces by 938 tons in the next year.

We can all make a difference by switching off and as 40 per cent of all UK CO2 emissions are used directly by the UK populations’ activities, the simple changes we make can really help.
