Historic environment

The Historic Environment Team gives advice about all aspects of the historic environment and heritage conservation in Southampton including: scheduled monuments; listed buildings; locally listed buildings; the Buildings at Risk Register; buildings in conservation areas; archaeology and the planning process; parks and gardens of special historic interest. It also maintains the Historic Environment Record for the city. Follow the links on the left for specific aspects of the service.

Information about related services provided by Southampton City Council (other archaeological services, museums, oral history, historical archives and collections) can be found on the Local history and local history page (see link below, which will take you to another part of the web site).

Heritage Help is a new national web site that provides general advice for anyone wishing to get involved in any aspect of the historic environment (link below).
