Missed garden rubbish collection

Key Online Services
Missed Refuse Collection Form
  • Was there any contamination in your bag?

If your bag was contaminated, the crew will have left a card advising why your bag wasn't emptied. Please see the list of what can and can't go in the bag. If your bag was contaminated, it is your responsibility to remove the contaminants. Collections will resume on your next scheduled collection day, provided the contaminants have been removed.

  • Was your bag too heavy?

We take the Health and Safety of our crews very seriously. If your bag was too heavy for one person to lift, it may not have been emptied. It is your responsibility to lighten the bag. Collections will resume on the next scheduled collection day, provided the bag is light enough for one person to lift.

  • Was your bag filled correctly?

All your green waste should be contained within the bag. Branches etc should not stick up out of the bag. If there is waste sticking out of the bag, the crew may not empty the bag on Health and Safety grounds. Please cut any large items into smaller pieces to keep them within the bag, then place your bag out for collection on the next scheduled collection day.

  • Was your bag out on time?

Your bag should be placed out for collection by 6.30am on your collection day. The collection crews start very early, but even if they don't usually get to your property until later in the day your bag should still be out by 6.30am. This is because we may have to change the day's routing due to operational reasons.

  • Was your bag at the edge of your property?

Your bag should be placed at the edge of your property on the day of collection. Please avoid blocking the highway and causing a problem to pedestrians. The collection crew will not come onto your property to collect the bag(s) (unless you are on assisted collection). If this has happened, please place your bag at the edge of your property on the next scheduled collection day.

  • Are other bags in your road still out for collection?

If your neighbour's bags are still out for collection the the crew has yet to reach your road, or has experienced access or other operational problems, and may have changed their route. You can contact Actionline on 0800 5 19 19 19 or email actionline@southampton.gov.uk to enquire about the collection service, but we would suggest that you wait until the afternoon of the collection day to do so.

If none of these checks have solved why your bag hasn't been emptied, then please use the online form to report the missed collection, or contact Actionline by telephone or email as above.
