Southampton City Council does not collect hazardous waste.
Domestic waste that may be hazardous include:
Although it is possible to dispose of very small amounts of hazardous waste in the normal mixed rubbish collection, larger amounts will need to be disposed of at properly managed waste facilities. You can take it to a household recycling or civic amenity site free of charge.
Low energy light bulbs should be taken to household recycling or civic amenity sites to be recycled.
Asbestos
Asbestos must be handled and disposed of correctly. It can only be disposed of at the Netley HWRC in Grange Road and in limited quantities.
Disposal of bonded asbestos is free for domestic householders. However, you must pre-book by telephone before transporting the asbestos to ensure that there is room in the dedicated asbestos container and to confirm that the items are packaged correctly, you can contact the site on 023 8040 6182. For opening times etc, please use the link at the bottom of the page.
Please be advised that the centre only accepts small quantities of asbestos, this can be no more than fifteen sheets, or be greater than 120 centimetres by 60 centimetres in size.
