Gardens
We often receive calls about the state of neighbour’s gardens; just because you feel that your neighbour’s garden is untidy is not enough for us to get involved. We can deal with accumulations of rubbish on residential premises; if it provides nesting or food for rats or poses a danger to public health. Sharps, food waste and mattresses or old sofas are the most usual causes for concern.
If we have looked at an accumulation we can, should it be necessary serve the owner a legal notice. This notice requires the owner of the property to dispose the accumulation appropriately. In cases where the owner does not abide with the requirements outlined in a notice then the council will arrange for the work and charge the owner for the costs incurred.
Cutways/ Access ways
The responsibility of keeping a cutway clear falls to the occupiers of the adjacent properties. Each resident is responsible for the cutway. We serve a legal notice. We give each land owner a chance to clear the part of the cutway they are responsible for. We inspect the cutway once the notice has expired. If the cutway has not been cleared we will carry out the works and charge the owners of the properties along the cutway.
City Patrol can deal with overflowing bins on the pavement or accumulations of rubbish on the street, these should be reported through Actionline on 0800 5 19 19 19.
