Planning Application 08/01734/OUT
A planning application has been submitted by Hammerson UK Properties Plc for a mixed use development known as Watermark WestQuay (reference no. 08/01734/OUT). The application site is the land between Harbour Parade and Portland Terrace to the south of WestQuay Shopping Centre. The site has previously been known as West Quay Phase 3 Central Site. The application site includes part of the existing car park of The Quays Swimming and Diving Centre; land adjoining the multi-storey car park, part of the southern end of the existing WestQuay Shopping Centre and the existing pedestrian subway in Bargate Street. The site area is approximately 3.94 hectares.
The description of development for this application is:
Mixed use development including an extension and alterations to the West Quay Shopping Centre comprising Retail (Use Class A1, A2 and A3 - 34,700 square metres maximum floorspace); Hotel (Use Class C1 - 5,600 square metres maximum floorspace); Residential (Use Class C3 - Maximum 241 flats); Cinema (Use Class D2 - 7,800 square metres maximum floorspace); public open space; with associated car parking, access, highway, landscaping and other works including infilling the existing pedestrian subway in Bargate Street (Outline application with access for consideration at this stage - Environmental Impact Assessment Development).
This is an outline application with access and a set of Parameter Plans and Design Principles submitted for approval. All other matters are reserved. Further details of the proposed uses are included in the table below:

These floorspace figures do not include car parks, service yards, internal/external circulation routes and shared spaces. A proportion of the retail unit floorspace, 2,393 square metres, includes an area of the existing WestQuay Shopping Centre which is to be remodelled as part of the scheme.
