Key Online Services
Apply for planning permission

Here are some tips and ideas to make sure you online planning application goes through our validation process without a hitch

  • Attach all drawings as PDF (Portable Document Format) files

  • Photographs should be JPEG file format

  • All attachments are restricted to the following file types: .pdf (adobe acrobat) , .jpg (images), .doc (MS Word text documents), .xls (spreadsheets etc).

We are unable to accept drawings with the following file extensions:

DWG, DWF, DXF or any drawings that have been produced with CAD software. If in doubt please contact us to discuss this.

  • No individual file should be larger than 4Mb – as it is likely to be rejected

  • File names should be relevant to the content of the drawings

  • Ensure that all drawings include the print (paper) size; the relevant scale at that print size (e.g. 1:100 etc);

  • a scale bar showing the length of 1 and 10 metres and key dimensions.

  • Preferable drawing sizes are A3 or A4 drawings should be correctly oriented on the page

  • Ensure you have read the appropriate validation checklists and addressed any issues covered.

Drawings or fees can be submitted by post, please ensure these are correctly addressed, quoting the Planning Portal Application number. An application cannot be progressed until ALL appropriate information has been received.

Drawings must include a scale bar and you should identify what size the drawings should be printed (A0, A1 etc.) and if drawings need to be printed in colour e.g. site plans.

Providing a summary of all attachments included with your application is very helpful.

Consult the Validation Checklists. These can be found on the 'downloadable forms and checklists' page (see link below). It is important to note that the Validation Checklists list the documents required to accompany planning applications before they are validated.

Please read the document available below from the Planning Portal about the validation of planning applications and the revised advice that comes with it.

For major applications submitted online, complete the form online and post/deliver a minimum of 3 sets of all the application documentation to Planning Services. In addition, copies of the application documentation should be supplied on CD disc to enable electronic processing. No individual file should be larger than 4Mb and if they are larger than this they may be rejected.

PLEASE NOTE: Information provided on the application form and accompanying drawings and documents will normally be made available on the Internet.
