Sustainable development

SustainabilityA widely-used definition of sustainable development is: 'development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.' The increasing stress we put on resources and environmental systems such as water, land and air cannot go on forever.

Sustainability Checklist

The Sustainability Checklist sets out key principles for sustainable development and can be used by applicants for planning permission or others to demonstrate compliance with the City of Southampton Core Strategy Policy CS20 (Tackling and Adapting to Climate Change).

Completion of the checklist is required for both new and conversion residential schemes of 1 or more units or non-residential proposals in excess of 500 sq. m.
New build schemes of 1 or more dwellings or over 500 sq. m. non-residential should also submit a pre-assessment estimator for the Code for Sustainable Homes or BREEAM as this is now a policy requirement of CS20.

Assessors and products can be found at the greenbooklive website link available below.
