The Approved Community Infrastructure Levy Charging Schedule took effect from 1 September 2013.
The CIL is a standard, non-negotiable charge applicable to developments where there is a net increase of 100 sq.m of floor space or the creation of one or more dwellings. The charge varies between different use classes and is set out in the Charging Schedule below.
The council undertook an initial consultation on CIL from December 2011 to February 2012 with a formal consultation on its proposed Charging Schedule taking place between September 2012 and October 2012. The Public Examination on the Charging Schedule took place in March 2013, and the Examination Report was received in April 2013.
The council received the final Inspector's Report on 16th April 2013 which recommended a reduction in the Residential Charging Rate from £90 per sqm to £70 per sqm and clarified the applicability of the residential charging rate to the different types of new student housing.
On 17th July 2013 the city council fully accepted the Inspector's recommendations and approved the Charging Schedule to take effect from 1st September 2013. It also approved the CIL Instalments Policy which sets out payment intervals and deadlines for the collection of CIL.
