The Sustainability Appraisal must be undertaken on the Core Strategy during its production to look at the effects of the plan and ensure it accords with sustainable development. The Sustainability Appraisal (SA) incorporates Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA) which has been prepared independently by Halcrow Consultants Ltd.
The 'SA' stands for Sustainability Appraisal and looks into the social, environmental and economic effects of the Core Strategy. The 'SEA' stands for Strategic Environmental Assessment and looks into the specific environmental impacts of the Core Strategy. Finally 'AA' stands for Appropriate Assessment, this looks into how the plan will impact upon internationally important wildlife sites.
The aim of the SA/SEA and AA input into the Core Strategy is to influence its content and to ensure that the plan is sustainable.
