Local Development Framework

There are broadly two types of plans: Development Plan Documents (DPD) which set out the policies, and Supplementary Plan Documents (SPD) which provide more detail about the policies where relevant.

Southampton’s adopted DPDs consist of the Core Strategy (2010), “saved” policies from the Local Plan Review (2006), the Minerals & Waste Core Strategy (2007) and the Minerals & Waste Local Plan (1998).
Current DPDs being worked on are the City Centre Action Plan (which will replace some policies in the Local Plan Review), and an update to the Minerals & Waste Plan which will replace the Minerals & Waste Core Strategy and Local Plan.

The LDF also includes the programme for the preparation of the plans (the Local Development Scheme), the consultation arrangements for new plans and planning applications (the Statement of Community Involvement), and the Annual Monitoring Report (released each December).
