Public transport in Southampton offers a wide range of services to many destinations within the city and neighbouring towns. Our Public Transport map shows all of the bus, rail and ferry services that operate within Southampton, including those serving destinations outside of the city. A broad summary of the services available is given below;
Buses
There is a comprehensive bus network in Southampton and frequent services are available to/from most locations in the city, including all district centres. There are also half hourly services to most neighbouring towns. Most bus services depart from and travel to the city centre (see our Public Transport map for bus stop locations).
Trains
Direct local rail services run to Totton, Romsey, Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh and Southampton Airport from Southampton Central. There are also 7 local stations at Redbridge, Millbrook, Swaythling, St. Denys, Bitterne, Woolston and Sholing where you can catch trains to Southampton Central or other destinations.
Ferries
There are two ferry services to the Isle of Wight leaving from Town Quay; a high speed service for foot passengers and a ferry for vehicles, cyclists and foot passengers. There is also a half hourly service to Hythe carrying foot passengers and cyclists which leaves from Town Quay.
Coaches
As well as local public transport, there are a number of long distance coach services which leave from the city centre. A wide variety of destinations are available, including regular services to London. The main coach station is located in the City Centre next to Toys R Us.

Smartcities is a multifunctional card which will allow you to access a number of different services with just one card including concessionary bus travel. If you qualify for your bus pass for age reasons you can apply for or renew your bus pass online.
