Introduction:
Junior Road Safety Officers are year six pupils in schools who act as Road Safety Champions to relay key messages to the whole school community. The pupils are empowered to take responsibility for their own safety as well as that of their peers through fun learning activities in which they can all share. There are many ways the pupils can get involved, including:
• School assemblies
• Poster design
• Competitions
During their time in office, they are supported by the City Council Road Safety Office, the school and, in some cases, their local Police Community Support Officers.
Aims:
• To reduce the numbers of children injured on the roads
• To promote a sense of responsibility and positive citizenship among children
• To enhance the importance of safety among pupils, parents and school staff
• To develop innovative ways of putting safety messages across
The Role of Teachers, Parents and staff:
