Pupil participation

The most crucial part of a school travel plan is its sustainability. Pupils are invited to be part of the working group and are encouraged to be involved at all stages of the travel plan process. Pupils and teachers will already be tackling associated issues in the classroom, such as transport use and its effect on the environment, getting to know and look after your local area, climate change and road safety. Thus there are many subject areas where travelling to school issues can be incorporated into the curriculum, for example, in Drama, Maths, Information Technology, Citizenship, Geography, Technology and Design and so on. For information on ideas and lesson plans please contact Southampton City Council's School Travel Plan Officer.
