Footway Improvement Programme

Footway Scheme Image

Southampton City Council is investing to improve the condition of over 40 miles of pavements and footways in the city. Working in partnership with Balfour Beatty WorkPlace the programme of works will take place between February 2011 and September 2011.

The programme has been designed to focus on areas within the city that have a higher proportion of older residents. Repairing and treating the pavement surfaces will help give residents more confidence when using the paths near their homes and will provide a new, consistent walking surface. By dealing with minor defects before they become dangerous and sealing pavement surfaces to extend their life expectancy, the programme of work will save higher maintenance costs in the longer term and improve the appearance of residential areas. The process is not designed to replace full scale footway excavation and resurfacing, which will continue to be undertaken where required.
