Parked Motorcycles

link to interactive parking mapMotorcycles may be parked in designated motorcycle areas without time restriction or payment.

Use our interactive map to find parking places for motorcycles.
Untick the layers you are not interested in leaving only motorcycle parking ticked.

The number of vehicles which may be parked in each area will depend upon the size of the vehicle and the way that it is parked.

Guidance on parking your motorcycle

1. Parking motorcycles in vehicle bays

If you park your motorcycle in an on-street pay and display bay or a vehicle bay in a car park, you will need to pay for parking. Use our interactive map to find parking places.
It can be difficult to display tickets on motorcycles and they can also be easily removed. We would therefore suggest the following:

  • Purchase a pay and display ticket and write your registration number on it so no one else can use it, and display it on your motorcycle.

  • If you are unable to display the ticket on your motorcycle, purchase and retain the pay and display ticket. In the event of a Penalty Charge Notice being issued to your motorcycle you can make representations and include a legible photocopy of your pay and display ticket.

2. Parking motorcycles in multi storey car parks

Motorcycles are not permitted to park in Southampton City Council multi storey car parks.

3. Parking motorcycles in residents parking zones

If you park your motorcycle in a permit holder bay you must display a valid parking permit. Residents of properties which are part of a resident’s parking scheme will normally be able to apply for a parking permit for their motorcycle. Follow this link for information on residents parking permits.

Visitors should be able to obtain a parking permit from the resident they are visiting, which should be validated and displayed on the motorcycle.

4. Places where motorcycles should not be parked

Motorcycles should not be parked on pavements, double or single yellow lines, in taxi ranks, bus stops, disabled bays, loading bays or any other place designated for the use of a specific class of vehicle.

5. Postcodes (to aid navigation)

Postcodes are provided for guidance only. There is much variance between mapping systems as to the final destination of any given postcode.

These postcodes have been tested in January 2011 on Google maps uk. Other mapping software is available and may differ.

These postcodes will direct you to the nearest vicinity.
