Crane licence

Cranes and other machienery on the public highway A licence is necessary if you are placing any type of crane or other equipment on the public highway or if any part of the crane or its load will over-sail the public highway at any time during the lift.

Eligibility criteria:

A: Crane companies & contractors

Required documentation & details:

  • A site plan, to scale, showing the crane's position and over-sail area with dimensions

  • A copy the Risk Assessment & Method Statement relating to this job

  • Evidence of £10 million Public Liability Insurance

  • Start, end and contingency dates & times

  • A Traffic Management Plan complying with Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual & related Codes of Practice

  • The type of work to be undertaken

  • A copy of the crane specification catalogue entry which must include dimensions, weight, jib capacity and limits

  • Where appropriate, a copy of the way-leave agreement or permission from landowners who will be over-sailed will need to be provided

Fees:

  • Mobile crane £110.00
    (for example, a cherry picker, scissor lift or elevating platform)

  • Tower crane £280.00
