Weight limits
Weight limits can be applied to vehicles which, when fully loaded, weigh more than 7.5 tonnes.
Exemptions are however required for vehicles requiring access (e.g. furniture removal vans) and therefore these restrictions generally apply only to through traffic. Most commercial vehicles operating within the city are under 7.5 tonnes.
Vehicles exceeding this weight can be recognised by the requirement for rear markings (see below)
Width limits
Where roads are unsuitable for wide vehicles, width limits can be applied, though within a residential area exemptions may to be made for vehicles requiring access (e.g. service vehicles).
Details of where these restrictions apply can be obtained from the Traffic Management team (see contact details below). Only the Police have powers of enforcement of weight and width restrictions.
