Trees in ex-council properties

Southampton City Council requires that permission is requested in writing for any works to trees on ex-council owned properties. All ex-council properties have a deed of covenant and this clearly states the legal responsibility of the owner. This is to safeguard the future protection of trees on council land after the sale of the land. Purchasers must not fell, top or lop any trees on the property without the prior consent of the council.

If you would like to carry out works to trees subject to a deed of covenant please complete the online application form. If you require a paper copy of this please contact Actionline on 023 8083 3005 or email trees@southampton.gov.uk and request an application form.

A plan will also need to be submitted, this will need to be emailed or posted to the tree team. A guidance note is available to assist with making an application, this includes an example of tree works and a plan.
