Identification service
People are welcome to bring objects that they would like identified to the Tudor House Museum, where staff on duty will issue you with a receipt and retain the object for identification by the curator. You will receive a written reply within a month. We do not undertake valuations.
Conservation guidance
We can provide advice on the care of your archaeological objects so they stand the best chance of survival.
Tours of the stores
This is a summer activity taking place from May to September. Staff will take you behind the scenes into the archaeological stores. The history and development of the collections is explained, the miles of shelving are open to view, and there is an opportunity to see and handle some of the finds we curate and hear the stories behind them. There is a charge for this service.
Talks
Staff are always pleased to talk to groups and societies about Southampton's archaeological heritage. Talks have to be booked and a charge is made for any group not based in Southampton.
Photographic images
Copies of photographs, prints and drawings can be purchased for publication.
Research
You are welcome to browse through our online database and examine documentary records or to view specific objects in our stores. Research visits are by appointment and need to be booked in advance. Please contact the Archaeological Curator at gill.woolrich@southampton.gov.uk.
