Southampton is a thriving modern city but you don't have to explore too far to discover its amazing past. Family History
If you are researching your family tree you'll be looking for pages on Genealogy, although family history can take you in many different directions such as; church or parish records, births deaths and marriages, or even street records.

Maritime History
Southampton has a rich association with the sea. We have maritime books, warship and merchant shipping records and information on the Titanic.

History of Southampton
The 1846 map of Southampton together with the 1870 town plan are available to download. Also consider history of your local trades and of your street. There are clubs and forums listed and extensive information on our sister site, 'Portcities'. Our Museum of Archaeology has an online database of artefacts and information from our Saxon and Roman heritage - right down to your ward area.
