Services We Provide

Identification Service. Want to know what that odd thing in the attic is? Bring it in to a museum. You will be given a receipt and our experts will give you a written report. We do not undertake valuations.

Conservation Guidance. We can assist you to look after your own historical items so that they stand the best chance of survival.

Tours of the Stores. Group visits for organisations of all sorts can be arranged to see specific things or for general familiarisation with the collections. These have to be booked. There is a charge for this service.

Talks. Staff are always pleased to talk to groups and societies about Southampton and its rich heritage. These have to be booked in advance. They are free if your group is based in Southampton, otherwise there is a charge.

Art Lease. We work with our colleagues in the City Art Gallery to make paintings that are not currently required for exhibition, available to industry and commerce. Certain restrictions apply. There is a charge for this service.

Model Lease. The ship models that are not currently on display can be hired to enhance commercial premises. This operates in a similar way to Art Lease. There is a charge for this service.

Photographic Images. Copies of our photographs, prints, engineering drawings, etc. can be purchased for private study and research.

Licensing of Images. We license the use of our material in all publications and broadcast media. There is a charge for this service. Please enquire stating your specific needs.

Research. Many individuals come and do their own research. If you live far away, or your interest is commercial, we can undertake some research for you. There is a charge for this service.
