1. Manet on Tour

10 June to 22 July

Following an eight-month campaign, Oxford’s Ashmolean Museum succeeded in raising the funds to buy Edouard Manet’s Portrait of Mademoiselle Claus (1868). Southampton City Art Gallery is proud to be part of a tour of the portrait to museums and galleries around the UK.

2. Jamie Shovlin - How most of what you know is reconstruction

30 August – 8 December 2013

We are delighted to be working with Jamie Shovlin on a new solo exhibition at Southampton City Art Gallery this summer.

How most of what you know is reconstruction will present new and existing work by the artist Jamie Shovlin within a new framework and context established by their display alongside artworks from Southampton City Arts Gallery’s permanent collection. Exploring notions of time, object, memory and experience as part of an interrelated whole, the exhibition will present commonalities and divergent themes within the artist’s practice and the gallery’s collection.
