Guildhall Square

No Fit State 8

The Guildhall Square has had a dramatic transformation that stretches from the Guildhall entrance, all the way to the old Tyrrell & Green site, linking through to the city's parks.

This contemporary space features many striking design features, making it the perfect meeting place and setting for performing arts shows, exhibitions and an array of exciting seasonal events.

The square is at the very heart of the city’s Cultural Quarter and is a new focus for Northern Above Bar. It will also make a major contribution to the redevelopment of the former Tyrrell & Green department store and the new Regional Business Centre (at the site of the former C&A store). Southampton City Council is working to attract over £75m investment to assist in the regeneration and development of this area.

Many events have already taken place on the square, including the relaunch event in November 2010 which was attended over two nights by approximately 14,000 people. Most recently, in July 2011, Barricade, No Fit State Theatre Company, took over the Tyrrell and Green site. These were in partnership with The Nuffield.

Southampton Cultural Development Trust is spearheading the city's drive to complete the Cultural Quarter, with its new galleries, performance and film spaces, through fundraising and advocacy. www.culturesouthampton.org.uk.
