Southampton’s Titanic Story
As the port from which the 1912 White Star Line passenger liner Titanic set sail, Southampton is at the very heart of the Titanic story. Many lives and families were affected by the tragedy. This exhibition tells their story. Explore the 1:25 scale interactive model of the ship, experience the ‘Disaster Room’, and immerse yourself in the 1930s court room which depicts the inquiry held in London after the disaster.
Southampton - Gateway to the World
Using the city’s unique historic collections, this gallery recounts the stories of people who have departed from or arrived in the port of Southampton over the last 250,000 years, from the earliest settlers to the stories of people living in the city today.
Special Exhibition – Titanic the Legend
Marking the hundred year commemoration of the disaster, 2012 sees the SeaCity Special Exhibition Area host a completely original Titanic exhibition – ‘Titanic the Legend’. The Titanic story is presented through a variety of perspectives and considers why the legend endures and the effect it has had on ship design, safety and technological research. The exhibition also explores the notion of a ‘Titanic industry.’ This special exhibition space will host other temporary exhibitions in future years. ‘Titanic the Legend’ will be in place until 2013.
Access
People with mobility impairment can access all areas of the building via the lift. The only public area in the building not accessible is the clock tower, accessed by a steep staircase. Access for children’s pushchairs / buggies is possible in most areas except the clock tower.
The Galley Cafe
You can enjoy the museum café without needing to pay for admission to the rest of the building. The café is conveniently located on the ground floor.
Ideal for families
There are many hands-on activities and interactive exhibits in our galleries to stimulate and inspire the whole family. Buggy park and baby changing facilities are available.

SeaCity Museum opens at 1.30pm on the 10 April.
Thereafter, open 7 days a week, 10am-5pm including Bank Holidays.
Closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

Since March 2009 the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded the council a total of £4.9 million towards the £15m museum. Southampton Cultural Development Trust has been formed as a company limited by guarantee to raise funding towards the costs of the project.
SeaCity Museum is the latest important step in the development of Southampton's Cultural Quarter. Southampton Cultural Development Trust is spearheading the city's drive to complete the Cultural Quarter, with its new galleries, performance and film spaces, through fundraising and advocacy. www.culturesouthampton.org.uk.
Kier Southern is the building contractor on SeaCity. The work commenced in October 2010 and is rapidly progressing.
Post 2012, if funding permits, later phases could open up more of the Old Magistrates' Court 1930's building as exhibition space.
