SeaCity Museum Frequently Asked Questions

1. I am a Southampton resident - how do I claim my free ticket?

If you live in the qualifying area (SO14 to SO19) you have received a letter or postcard that you will be able to exchange for tickets on the day of your visit to SeaCity Museum. You will not be able to pre-book.

The voucher allows one household to visit together and can be exchanged for tickets up to the value of £25 (the cost of a family ticket, or three adults).

The vouchers can only be used during school term time:

Between 16th April and 1st June 2012

Between 11th June and 23rd July 2012

Between 3rd September and 26th October 2012

And between 5th November and 21st December 2012

Adult visitors must bring proof of Southampton residence (e.g. a council tax bill or a driving licence) upon entry.

2. What are the opening hours?

On the 10th April 2012:
1.30pm – 6pm (pre-booked tickets only)

From 11th April 2012:
Open daily 10am – 5pm

3. How much does it cost for entry to the whole museum?

SeaCity logoPrices for museum entry and special exhibition:
Adults £8.50
Concessions (children aged 5 -16 and adults over 60) £6.00
Family (two adults and three children) £25.00
Group Travel (minimum of 10 people, advance booking and payment only) £6.50
Joint ticket for Tudor House and Garden £11.50

Children under 5 years of age will not be charged

4. Is it possible to just pay to see part of the Museum?

No

6. How accessible is the museum to wheelchair users?

People with mobility impairment can access all areas of the building via a lift. The only public area in the building not accessible to people with mobility impairment is the clock tower, accessed by a steep staircase.

8. How do I get to museum?

Follow signs for City Centre, once parked Sea City is signposted throughout the City Centre.

9. Do you have parking facilities?

No, but there are many multi storey car parks in the City centre.
The closest and most convenient are:
Marlands MSCP, postcode for SatNav SO15 1BA.
West Park MSCP, postcode for SatNav SO15 1FY.
Grosvenor MSCP, postcode for SatNav SO15 2BG.

10. Do you have disabled parking?

No not specifically designated to the Museum.
There are on street designated parking places in Commercial Road (SO15 1CG), opposite Mayflower Theatre and SO14 7DW, opposite Central Library.
There are also designated blue badge spaces in the following car parks:

11. What access is there for coaches?

There is a coach drop off point outside the Museum but no parking.
Coach parking is available at:
Herbert Walker Avenue (SO15 1HJ)
Palmerston Road (SO14 1LL)
Canute Road (SO14 3TN)
Platform Road (SO14 3FU)
These postcodes will direct you to the nearest vicinity and the car parks are well signposted.
These facilities are intended for long stay coach parking with a maximum stay of 10 hours (no return same day).

12. How far are you from the train station?

A short 5–10 minutes walk. Exit the train station (from either side) and walk up the hill following the signs for SeaCity Museum (look out for the clock tower).

13. How accessible is the museum for pushchairs and do you have baby change facilities?

Access for children’s pushchairs / buggies is possible in most areas except the clock tower. There is also a buggy park available.
Yes there are baby changing facilities.

14. Can we visit the café and shop without paying entry fees?

Yes you can enjoy the museum café and shop without needing to pay for admission to the rest of the building. Both are conveniently located on the ground floor.

15. How long should we allow for the Museum visit?

We would advise you to allow around 3 hours for viewing the displays in the main museum and the exhibition in the special exhibition area.

16. How do I book educational activities?

Tours of the museum and a variety of learning activities are available for schools, colleges and community groups. To arrange a visit or book a place: phone the Learning Officer on 023 8091 5730 or email museums@southampton.gov.uk for more details.

17. Is it possible to hire out all or part of the Museum for weddings/functions?

SeaCity Museum offers an unusual and inspiring venue for corporate and private events including product launches, training days, client drinks and canapé evenings. Contact the admin team on 023 8083 4172 or email museums@southampton.gov.uk for more details.

20. What types of jobs should be expected?

SeaCity Museum is part of the Cultural Quarter, which overall is set to create 2000 jobs for the city. Within the museum there will be a number of different types of roles, for example in the areas of catering, reception, retail, supervisory, administration, cleaning, exhibitions and management.

21. Is SeaCity going to attract tourists into Southampton?

Yes, it is anticipated that the visitor attraction is likely to attract around 150,000 visitors per year of which approximately 25% will be those visiting the city specifically attracted by the SeaCity Museum.
